I haven't tried an orchid yet, but see them in the tropical section of the garden centers. My friend has a beautiful tall pink orchid in his kitchen where he keeps a close eye on it - to keep it moist.

Critical to good orchid care is keeping their feet damp. Also help support them so they don't break.
